HAWAI`I INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL HELD
One hundred films, mostly from Asia and the Pacific, were presented in Hawai`i free of charge from November 2-16. PFS, as usual, will give an award to the film that best raised political consciousness. To nominate a film that appeared, send a letter to the Society.
NOMINEES FOR BEST FILMS OF 1995
The latest nominee for an award for raising political consciousness regarding human rights is The Scarlet Letter. Although criticized for deviating from the book of the same title, the film did serve to warn filmviewers of the dangers of an ultimate conservative agenda that may be pushed by the Christian Coalition. Thus far, the following films have been nominated for best raising political consciousness in 1995 within four categories:
DEMOCRACY Beyond Rangoon
EXPOSÉ Beyond Rangoon
HUMAN RIGHTS Beyond Rangoon
Murder in the First
Picture Bride
The Scarlet Letter
PEACE Beyond Rangoon
To nominate a 1995 film for a PFS award, write to the above address by December 31. PFS members vote on the best films in these categories each year.
