JOHN SAYLES DEPICTS LONE STAR SOCIAL CHANGE
Former PFS award winner for Matewan, John Sayles focuses on social change in another small southern town, this time in Texas. Al- though the film has not yet been nominated for a PFS award, reports on the film are uniformly positive.
NOMINEES FOR 1996 PFS AWARDS
Only one film has been nominated for a PFS award for best raising political consciousness in 1996: Dead Man Walking (category of Human Rights). Members of the Political Film Society can nominate films with a simple letter, mailed to the above address.

APSA POLITICS & FILM GROUP DRAFTS NEW CONSTITUTION
In preparation for the possible acceptance of a Politics & Film Section by the American Political Science Association (APSA), Ernst Giglio and David Whiteman, PFS members, have drafted a brief constitution for the group. The key provisions are the following:
1) Purpose: promote teaching and research related to politics and film.
2) Membership: only for members and associate members of APSA, with dues set by the new section.
3) Officers: Chair, Program Chair, Membership Co-ordinator, Secretary-Treasurer, Newsletter Editor.
4) Elections: at annual business meetings, presumably during APSA annual conventions, with mail ballot if one-fourth of members at the meeting so request.
5) Newsletter: New newsletter or no separate newsletter from the PFS newsletter?
6) Awards: supersede PFS by making awards or new awards for outstanding papers and books?
7) Amendments: by a majority at the annual business meeting.
Since most PFS members are not political scientists, the two organizations may remain separate but will need to coordinate efforts.
