HOLLYWOOD CORRECTS THE RECORD AGAIN
During the era of blacklisting in the 1950s and 1960s, many screenwriters were forced to ghostwrite scripts. Thanks to recent research by the Writers Guild of America, revised credits are now being issued to recognize Dalton Trumbo for Roman Holiday (1953), The Brave One (1956), and Deadly Is the Female (1959).
HAWAI`I INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL STARTS NOVEMBER 7
The Ice Storm, staring Kevin Kline, will open the 1997 Hawai`i International Film Festival at the historic Hawai`i Theatre on Friday, November 7. Director Ang Lee will be present to intro- duce the film and and answer questions afterward. The festival, which lasts a week on O`ahu features films from Asia and the Pacific. Political Film Society members will vote for the film that best raises political consciousness.
STILL ONLY ONE NOMINEE FOR 1997 PFS AWARD
One film has been nominated for an award for 1997. Rosewood, which was released earlier in the year, is nominated for the category of Human Rights. However, other promising films are expected later this year: L.A. Confidential will describe police corruption in the 1950s. Amistad is Steven Spielberg’s rendering of a revolt on a slave ship in 1839. Kundun is Martin Scorsese’s depiction of the early life of the Dalai Lama, produced by Disney.

In its eleventh year of operation, the Political Film Society is the only organization that recognizes outstanding achievement in raising the political consciousness of the filmviewing public while working toward greater educational understanding of the role of film in politics.
