AMERICAN SNIPER REVEALS COMBAT IN IRAQ, TROUBLE AT HOME

Clint Eastwood, in directing American Sniper, wants the world to know the patriotism, fog of war, difficulty of avoiding the killing of women and children, and how the war experience makes life difficult for a wife and family back home. Based on the autobiography of Chris Kyle (played by Bradley Cooper), filmviewers see how the son of a military father (Ben Reed) trained Kyle, whose pinpoint gunshot accuracy was evident at an early age, to be strong. Kyle volunteers after the bombings of American embassies in Africa during 1998, trains as a Seal, marries, ends up as a sniper in Iraq with at least 165 kills, serves four tours of duty in a mission to save lives of his buddies, but does not enjoy life back home. Those who like to see warfare, shootings and killings, will doubtless enjoy American Sniper. But all the gore and family frustrations are nothing new in American films.  MH
